Hat-Trick for Hainsworth

The Minions (Ben Hainsworth & Aaron Collins from Heron Way school) were clear winners, well out in front with 38 points, having won all of their matches. However, a good no. of their matches were won 3-2. 2nd place goes to Holbrook (James Christer & Dan Weekes) on a respectable 26 points. The dominance of The Minions is shown by the fact that 2nd-placed Holbrook won just 5 of their 10 team matches. Good to see that all teams won at least 3 matches & event the lowest team had a healthy 20 points. It was interesting to note that the results when playing teams the 2nd time were not always the same as the first time.

In the individual averages, Ben Hainsworth topped the table, with an extremely impressive 22 wins out of 23 & he was followed closely by Chris Brent (Forest School), who missed the final session on 17 wins from 19. Chris was the only player to beat Ben & that was a 5-set thriller. On the return match, Ben made no mistakes & ran out a straight sets winner. The other match lost by Chris, was to an inspired Callum Steer in another 5-setter. In terms of averages (only counting the regular players), Nathan Wadey was 3rd with 68% although Tom Danahay (59%) won more matches.

Ben completed his hat-trick by also topping the doubles averages with Aaron. In the doubles tables, it reads as Minions played 10 won 9, but the game which they lost was when 2 substitute players played in their place. Indeed, all but 2 of their doubles matches were won 3-0. In 2nd place in the doubles averages were Dom & Tom, who had not fared so well in the league table, so good for them to have achieved a high doubles position. Again all the teams managed to win at least 2 doubles wins.

Horsham TTC coach Rory Scott is launching a new schools table tennis league in the summer term, to bring together teams of two from the large school network of players that he maintains.
